you left for school. . you left for the coast when that was cool...

i'm trying to come up with a perfect card for my production jewelry.
i HAVE to get it out of my sight and get it sold and wore by others.  it's just that everytime i want to, the packaging just convinces me that it's not ready. so this week i will design several cards and maybe i'll take photos and put them up. and have you (the tiny handful of people that look at this) help me decide.
it's just that i have no  supplies here, not even paper. i didn't even bring my sketchbook out here. What in the world was i thinking?
maybe i can buy one this week.

a new pendant

i set up shop today on my desk i found in the trash. look at my tools out!
i should celebrate actually making something with them.
(and i did a pretty bang up job considering what i lack- like a flex shaft/drill press)

so i took an old enameling sample i made years ago that i've always been found of and i made a setting.  i pierced out the back (getting used to my saw again was a challenge) and then i put it on an chain i made this summer that is really bulky and nice.

plus i think i like the back more than the front, which is an extra bonus! but i'm pretty happy about actually spending 2 hours or so making it. it was super easy even though i have the most incomplete metalworking studio these days (which consists of a few hammer and some pliers and a bench pin.) but it's worth celebrating!

..

this is one of my worst nightmares. from here thanks to emily.

in the places you go you see the place that you're from

i'm trying to find a clip from the (inside) out documentary made 5 years ago about the last album warren zevon made before his death.  when i find it, it will be up. otherwise you should find that or any of his cds and enjoy his raspy/wavering voice. i love it!

henry darger

jeanne quinn

these pieces are quite stunning. this work is what i wish i could see everyday, thoughtful or at least thought out at an experience and a discovery. they each have a delicate complexity and aren't what the first appear to be. lovely.

the fall

let me say it's been a year since i've graduated from kent, and this year couldn't have gone faster.
i spent six months at home babysitting my niece
close to 3 months in maine teaching jewelry and hanging out with kids
and then the last 3 months in Los Angeles working at a jewelry company and living a new life.
wow. mostly i've spent very little on making work or exploring much outside of sellable jewelry and purely aesthetic paintings. i don't like that i haven't made much work. i usually have several projects going on at once, exploring many mediums. but not these days.

i have been inspired by many things lately.
this incredible movie: the fall.

yeeeeah

kate, emily and i seeing ALANIS!!!
cheers!
Halloween!!! emily as a garden creature, and me as a business zombie.

i've been living in Los angeles for about 2 months now. i work in production at a commercial jewelry place. it's decent. i like working with my hands, but i'm missing the creative ability to do what i want. i'm starting to look for possible grad schools for next fall. it seems daunting and i have no real idea what i want. but i will figure it out.
this new life has been pretty fun out here. i know it will get better too!!
more pictures to come.
